Radio silence due to visitors, now broken due to departure.
High-lights of the visit were as follows;
Tamsin
1) Bamboo Train (Battambang) - "loved everything about it"
2) 3 days of temples (Siem Reap) - "exceeded all expectations"
3) Passion fruit juice - an abundance both with & without alcohol
4) Margaritas at the FCC (Phnom Penh)
5) The first 5 hours of the boat trip from Battambang to Siem Reap - seeing how other people live & enjoying 'the journey'
6) Spontaneous phonic alphabet with the Yen family children
7) Tuk Tuk AC
Ingrid
1) People - especially meeting Cambodian women such as Soerb, Socheata, Liong, lady with her baby at Bakong Temple, FCC waitress
2) 'White Thursday' - a day of cooking class with Soerb & family, followed by visit to Battambang Hospital, Tuk Tuk trip to Ek Phnom with Nani the tuk tuk driver & Circus (both in the hand & the real thing)
3) Moments at the Temples without other people
4) Being in the land of scarfs
5) Surprised & delighted by Khmer food despite poor reviews pre-departure
6) Good balance of doing, seeing & quiet time
7) Happy hours & chats/catching up - being with close friends
Me
1) Circus - Sokha show the best yet
2) Lack of host anxiety - knowing that Tamsin & Ingrid were genuinely enjoying Cambodia & having a 'proper' holiday
3) Seeing the same Temples (for the 6th time!) in a different light
4) Epiphany at the Killing fields (Phnom Penh)
5) Daily phone calls from the Yen family whilst I was away
6) Having people visiting & seeing old friends
7) Spending my Birthday money from Sonia on a scarf, top, mug & ring - very decadent
The were less low-lights, which were as follows;
Tamsin
1) Last hour of boat journey from Battambang to Siem Reap
2) The abundance of bugs but developed a new found respect for Geckos
Ingrid
1) Viral illness on holiday
2) Almost missing the connecting flight in Bangkok due to traffic
Me
1) Dodgy prawn & visiting Angkor Wat the next day sans sleep or food & with a over dependence on toilets
2) An inability to sleep at 6 am at the very latest despite not being at work or next to the Wat with its 4 am drumming & gonging
and that is all as it appears I have used my 1GB free photo storage on google!
